Patton baseball falls to Hendersonville in 10 innings, East Burke wins on forfeit
The Patton baseball team faced a tough loss in a thrilling 10-inning game against Hendersonville on Friday. Despite leading for most of the game, the Panthers ultimately fell short, losing 6-5 at home in Morganton.
The game started off strong for Patton, with the Panthers taking a 3-0 lead after three innings and extending it to 4-0 after four. However, Hendersonville fought back, tying the game at 5-5 after six innings. In the end, it was Hendersonville who scored the winning run in the 10th inning, handing Patton a heartbreaking defeat.
Offensively, Chandler Rutherford led the way for PHS with a 3 for 4 performance, including two RBIs and a run scored. Brady Davis also made an impact with a home run and two RBIs. Despite the loss, the Panthers showed resilience and determination throughout the game.
On the pitching side, Laine Barrier and Cohen Christian put in solid performances for Patton. Barrier struck out 11 batters in 5 1/3 innings, while Christian recorded eight strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings of work.
While the loss was a tough one for the Panthers, they can take pride in their strong performance and fighting spirit. With the regular season coming to a close, Patton will look to bounce back and finish strong in their upcoming games.
