Kansas State baseball salvaged its series at TCU with a thrilling 6-3 victory on Saturday, avoiding a series sweep and securing the first program road win against the Horned Frogs as a Big 12 opponent.
The Wildcats (26-17, 10-11 Big 12) had a tough start to the series, dropping the first two contests by scores of 12-0 and 7-4. However, they came out strong in the final game to clinch the win.
TCU (26-16, 10-14 Big 12) put up a good fight and rose four spots in the RPI rankings to No. 37, closing the gap on K-State who dropped to No. 35.
In the doubleheader on Saturday, K-State faced some challenges but managed to come out on top. Left fielder Chuck Ingram hit his ninth home run of the year in the second inning of the first game, but TCU rallied to secure a 7-4 win.
In the second game, ace Owen Boerema delivered a strong performance on the mound, helping K-State snap its 14-game losing streak in Fort Worth with a 6-3 victory. All-American Tyson Neighbors also played a key role, earning a save with a dominant outing.
Head coach Pete Hughes praised his team’s resilience, especially after a tough start to the series. True freshman Nick English and junior Kaelen Culpepper led the offensive charge, while center fielder Brendan Jones showcased his speed with two steals in the series.
Looking ahead, the Wildcats will face Nebraska in a midweek game before returning home for the Sunflower Showdown series against a surging Kansas team. With momentum on their side, K-State will look to build on their road win and continue their push towards postseason play.
