LIMERICK ATHLETICS ROUNDUP – MAY EDITION

The Shelbourne Junior Parkrun in Limerick celebrated its 172nd event last weekend, with young participants aged 4-14 showcasing their physical and social connections. The event promotes a healthy lifestyle for children and encourages parental involvement. To learn more about this fantastic initiative, visit their website or Facebook page.

In other news, participants of the UHL Hospitals Group Cycle completed a 60km journey to raise funds for healthcare in the region. Niall O’Callaghan impressed with a time of 21:11 at the Ballinatotis 4 Mile, while Liz Leonard completed the Royal Canal Longford Marathon as a new member of Kilmallock AC.

On the international front, Victoria Amiadamen achieved the World U20 Championship qualifying standard in the 400mh event in New Mexico. Meanwhile, local athletes Mick McCarthy, Marie Wright, and Orla Cusack showcased their talents at the London and Boston Marathons, respectively.

UL athlete Sharlene Mawdesley has been selected to represent Ireland in the Women’s and Mixed 4×400 Relays at the World Relays in the Bahamas. As the athletics season heats up, athletes are reminded to polarize their training for optimal performance.

Upcoming fixtures include the County Juvenile T&F Championships in Newcastle West and the Michael ‘Curley’ Cunningham 4 Mile race. Don’t miss the Kilmallock AC 4-Mile Road race and the 21st Annual Ger Mullane 10k & 5k Road Race & Walk hosted by Bilboa AC.
