Comparing the Huskies’ Gain and Loss in the Post: KC Ibekwe vs. Braxton Meah

The University of Washington basketball team has undergone a significant transformation this offseason with new coach Danny Sprinkle at the helm. One of the most notable changes was the departure of Braxton Meah and the arrival of KC Ibekwe from Oregon State in a straight-up swap of big men.

Ibekwe, a 6-foot-10, 287-pound center, brings a more physical presence inside compared to Meah. While both players have limited offensive skills, Ibekwe’s ability to score with both hands and better footwork make him a valuable addition to the team. His Canadian and Nigerian heritage adds a unique dimension to the Huskies’ roster.

In terms of statistics, Ibekwe and Meah had similar numbers last season, with Ibekwe averaging 5.1 points and 4 rebounds per game for Oregon State. However, Meah showcased his scoring ability with six double-figure games, including a 19-point performance against UCLA.

One area where Meah excelled was free-throw shooting, connecting on 60.1 percent of his attempts, while Ibekwe struggled with a 44.4 percent success rate. Despite Meah’s ankle injury last season, Ibekwe’s weight management remains a concern for the team.

Looking ahead, Ibekwe has two seasons of eligibility left, while Meah is down to one. With his nickname “KC” symbolizing the “King of the City,” Ibekwe brings a confident and competitive spirit to the Huskies.

As the team continues to rebuild under Sprinkle’s leadership, the addition of Ibekwe provides a promising outlook for the upcoming season. Fans can stay updated on the latest UW basketball news at si.com/college/washington.
