Leeds Rhinos Triumph Over Hull FC with Riley Lumb’s Debut Double

Riley Lumb Shines on Leeds Debut with Two Tries in Victory Over Hull

Riley Lumb made an impressive mark on his Leeds debut by scoring two first-half tries to help the Rhinos secure a hard-fought 18-12 victory over struggling Hull at the MKM Stadium.

Lumb, filling in for the injured David Fusitu’a, showcased his talent by scoring a fabulous individual try to draw Leeds level after Morgan Smith had put Hull ahead. The 19-year-old then struck again to put his side 12-6 ahead at half-time.

Cam Smith’s try and Rhyse Martin’s successful conversion extended Leeds’ lead to 12 points, but they had to hold on in a nervy final quarter after Lewis Martin scored for Hull.

After suffering consecutive home losses, Leeds found some comfort on the road, easing the scrutiny on head coach Rohan Smith’s position. The win comes at a crucial time as questions about Smith’s future were looming, similar to his uncle Tony’s situation at Hull, who recently parted ways with the Australian coach.

The victory marked a seventh straight competitive loss for Hull, who are currently above only London Broncos in the Betfred Super League standings. However, after conceding 50 or more points in four of their last five games, Hull showed improvement in their performance against Leeds.

Lumb’s exceptional debut performance was a highlight of the match, with the winger displaying skill, footwork, and strength to make a significant impact on the game. His two tries were crucial in securing the win for Leeds.

Leeds will face London Broncos next, while Hull will take on Warrington Wolves in their upcoming fixtures. The win for Leeds keeps them in eighth place in the league standings, as they look to build on their recent success.
