Dogwood Junior Championship Regatta Draws Top Youth Rowing Teams to Oak Ridge

The Dogwood Junior Championship Regatta is set to take place in Oak Ridge this weekend, drawing in more than 40 youth rowing teams from 20 different states. Hosted by the Oak Ridge Rowing Association, this premier event will showcase the talents of young athletes aged 14 to 19 as they compete in one of America’s favorite rowing venues.

According to a press release, the regatta will feature 1,100 athletes and over 650 entries, ranging from the single person scull to the coxed 8+. Teams from as far away as Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Virginia, and South Florida will be vying for top honors as they prepare for USRowing’s regional and national championships.

Ann Edwards, president of ORRA’s board of directors, expressed excitement for this year’s event, stating that it is the largest edition of the Dogwood Junior Championship Regatta to date. With entries maxing out two weeks prior to the race weekend, the competition promises to be fierce and exhilarating.

Racing will kick off with time trials on Saturday morning, followed by semi-finals in the afternoon and finals on Sunday over the 2000-meter course. Spectators are encouraged to come out and witness the action-packed event firsthand.

For those interested in learning more about the execution of regattas like the Dogwood Junior Championship, volunteering opportunities are available through the Oak Ridge Rowing Association. Founded in 1978, ORRA’s mission is to promote the sport of rowing in Oak Ridge and East Tennessee.
