Evergreen Baseball Overcomes Injuries to Make Playoff Push
Injuries Decimate Evergreen Baseball Team, But Plainsmen Rally for 11-Game Win Streak
The Evergreen baseball team faced a tough start to the season as injuries decimated their depth, leaving coach Chad Burchett with only nine players available for the varsity squad. Despite starting the season 1-4, including a tough series loss to Prairie, the Plainsmen have rallied for an impressive 11-game win streak.
The highlight of their streak came with a 4-0 victory over top-ranked Kelso, handing the Hilanders their first loss of the season. Senior Will Goth expressed the team’s fighting spirit, stating, “We’ve scrapped and scrapped and scrapped. We just showed what we can do right here.”
The Plainsmen faced adversity early on with key injuries, including one to Jaydon Crace, the team’s lone returning all-leaguer. However, the team’s resilience and determination shone through as they worked together to overcome their challenges.
Coach Burchett emphasized the importance of teamwork and versatility, with players stepping up in new positions to fill the gaps left by injuries. The team’s commitment to practice and improvement paid off, leading to crucial wins and a spot in the postseason.
Despite a loss to Kelso in their next game, the Plainsmen have proven that they can compete with the best teams in the state. With the playoffs on the horizon, Evergreen is ready to continue their impressive run and show that they are a force to be reckoned with.
Senior Landon Rayner summed up the team’s journey, stating, “Eleven wins for people to notice, and now they know we’re here.” The Evergreen baseball team may have faced adversity, but their resilience and determination have propelled them to success on the field.
