Mandengbam Jadumani Singh and Akash Gorkha Enter Quarterfinals of ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships
In an impressive display of skill and determination, Mandengbam Jadumani Singh and Akash Gorkha have secured their spots in the quarterfinals of the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Jadumani Singh, competing in the 51kg category, outperformed Aldarkhishig Battulga of Mongolia with a Referee Stop Contest decision in round two in the U-22 category. Meanwhile, Akash faced a tough challenge against Mongolia’s Ganbaatar Gan Erdene but managed to make a remarkable comeback after losing the first round, ultimately winning the bout 4-1.
Both boxers will now prepare for their quarter-final bouts scheduled for Tuesday, with high hopes of advancing further in the competition. Additionally, Ajay Kumar (63.5kg) and Ankush (71kg) are set to kick off their campaign in the U-22 category later on Sunday.
In Saturday’s action, Jatin, Sagar Jakhar, and Yashwardhan Singh also secured victories to progress to the next round. Jatin and Yashwardhan dominated their opponents with identical 5-0 wins, while Sagar received a walkover from his opponent Leong Brandon of Singapore.
Looking ahead, 11 boxers will be in action on Monday in their respective youth categories, with a strong lineup of competitors in both the men’s and women’s divisions. The finals for the youth and U-22 categories are set to take place on May 6 and 7, respectively, promising exciting matchups and fierce competition as the tournament progresses.
