Jonny Bairstow’s Record-breaking Century Leads Punjab Kings to Victory in IPL Thriller
In a thrilling Indian Premier League match, Jonny Bairstow showcased his incredible talent by reaching a century in just 45 balls, leading Punjab Kings to a historic victory over Kolkata Knight Riders.
Bairstow’s unbeaten 108 from 48 balls guided Punjab Kings to the highest successful T20 run-chase, as they chased down Kolkata’s imposing total of 261-6 with eight wickets and eight balls to spare.
The Englishman’s brutal display of striking included eight fours and nine sixes, as he single-handedly dismantled the Kolkata bowling attack. His 45-ball century was not only the quickest by an Englishman in the IPL but also surpassed his own record set in 2019.
“We knew that we had to go ballistic after how they batted. We had to take risks and thankfully they came off,” Bairstow said after the match. “I’ve never been faced with a target like that before. So we knew the powerplay would be important, and if anything is close to being in your area you’ve got to make the most of it.”
Bairstow’s heroics were supported by Prabhsimran Singh’s quickfire 54 and Shashank Singh’s explosive 68 not out, as Punjab Kings powered to victory in style.
Despite Kolkata spinner Sunil Narine’s remarkable effort of 1-24 from four overs, it was not enough to stop the Punjab Kings juggernaut.
With this win, Punjab Kings have kept their hopes alive in the IPL, while Kolkata Knight Riders remain in a strong position in the table despite the defeat.
The match was a true spectacle of T20 cricket, with both teams showcasing their batting prowess and setting records in the process. It was a night to remember for Bairstow and Punjab Kings, as they etched their names in IPL history with a memorable victory.
