Binghamton Rumble Ponies Sold to Diamond Baseball Holdings, Ensuring Future of Minor League Baseball
The Binghamton Rumble Ponies, the Double-A affiliate of the New York Mets, have announced that they have entered into an agreement to sell the team to Diamond Baseball Holdings. This news comes as a relief to fans, as there were concerns about the team potentially relocating.
“Keeping the team in Binghamton was a priority when we bought the team, and we are confident that DBH, based on their reputation for investing in communities like Binghamton, will ensure that the Minor League baseball experience will be preserved for future generations to enjoy,” said David Sobotka, the team’s president.
Diamond Baseball Holdings now owns an impressive 33 teams, which is over 25% of major league-affiliated clubs. The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed, and Diamond Baseball Holdings declined to comment on the matter.
Despite the change in ownership, the Rumble Ponies are retaining their front office staff. Richard Tylicki, who has been the acting general manager since November 2023, has been named the permanent general manager of the team. Karen Sobotka will also remain the team’s vice president. Fans can rest assured that the team will continue playing games at Mirabito Stadium.
Diamond Baseball Holdings was created by sports entertainment group Endeavor in 2021, with Pat Battle as executive chairman and Pete Freund as chief executive officer. The organization has been steadily growing, and this acquisition of the Rumble Ponies further solidifies their presence in the minor league baseball world.
Overall, this news marks an exciting new chapter for the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, and fans can look forward to continued success under the ownership of Diamond Baseball Holdings.
