ADELAIDE, Australia — Brendan Steele emerged victorious at the LIV Golf Adelaide tournament, holding off a late surge from Louis Oosthuizen to secure a one-stroke win at The Grange Golf Club. The three-time PGA Tour winner showcased his skills with a final round 68, finishing with a total of 18-under 198 over 54 holes.
Steele’s impressive performance included a streak of five consecutive birdies early in the round, setting the stage for an exciting finish. Despite facing some putting challenges in the back nine, Steele managed to fend off a strong field of competitors, including Oosthuizen, Charl Schwartzel, and Jon Rahm.
In a post-round interview, Steele reflected on the mental toughness required to secure the victory, stating, “I just needed to get back in there and start playing with freedom again.” His resilience paid off as he made crucial pars in the final holes to clinch the win.
Oosthuizen, who shot a 65, finished in second place at 17-under 199, narrowly missing out on the top spot. Schwartzel and Rahm were among a group of players tied for third at 16-under 200, showcasing the depth of talent at the tournament.
The Australian team Ripper GC, led by Cameron Smith, emerged victorious in the teams format, defeating the South African-based team Stingers GC in a thrilling playoff. The win delighted the local fans who turned out in large numbers to support their favorites.
