Manchester United in Negotiations to Bring in Southampton Director of Football Jason Wilcox

In a surprising turn of events, Ineos has taken charge of football operations at Old Trafford as part of a deal that saw Sir Jim Ratcliffe become a minority owner of Manchester United. The Red Devils are now looking to resolve the hiring of Newcastle sporting director Dan Ashworth, who has been placed on garden leave, and negotiations are also underway to bring in Jason Wilcox.

Wilcox, who joined Southampton as director of football from Manchester City last summer, is now the subject of an approach from United. However, compensation terms seem to be a sticking point in the negotiations. While United have offered compensation equivalent to a year’s salary, Southampton is pushing for a larger package.

The Red Devils are eager to have Wilcox in place for the summer and are hoping for an amicable resolution to the situation. Reports emerged during Southampton’s match against Ipswich on Monday evening that Wilcox has resigned, which would mean serving a 12-month notice period before taking up a new role.

Wilcox is known to have a good relationship with incoming United chief executive Omar Berrada from their time together at City. Southampton manager Russell Martin was asked about the formal approach for Wilcox in a press conference following their defeat at Portman Road, stating that he had not yet spoken to the club about it.

With the situation still unfolding, it remains to be seen how the negotiations will progress and whether Wilcox will indeed make the move to Old Trafford. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
