Judd Trump rejects approach to join breakaway snooker tour: “I’m not interested one bit”

Judd Trump, the former world champion, has made it clear that he has no interest in joining a potential breakaway snooker tour, stating that he is happy where he is and values the history and heritage of the World Snooker Tour (WST).

The 34-year-old, who has won snooker’s ‘Triple Crown’ by clinching the World Championship in 2019, the Masters in 2019 and 2023, and the UK Championship in 2011, revealed that he turned down an approach to join a new tour a few months ago. Trump emphasized that he wants to play for something meaningful and challenging, rather than participating in exhibition matches.

With the WST offering significant prize money and expanding into new territories like the Middle East, Trump sees no reason to leave the established tour. He believes that the WST provides him with the platform to earn money through his achievements and make his family proud.

Trump’s stance on not joining a breakaway tour aligns with fellow snooker legend Ronnie O’Sullivan, who recently signed a three-year deal with WST and Riyadh Season. O’Sullivan emphasized the importance of being looked after and pampered, hinting that players should prioritize their well-being and financial security.

While there has been speculation about a potential split in the snooker world, Trump and O’Sullivan’s commitment to the WST suggests that the tour will remain strong and united. With top players like Trump and O’Sullivan leading the way, the future of snooker looks promising within the existing framework.
