Leap Gymnastics Trains Over 1,000 Gymnastics Enthusiasts in Mumbai
Leap Gymnastics, a pioneering initiative by the JSW Group, has already made a significant impact in Mumbai by training over 1,000 gymnastics enthusiasts in the last 18 months. The goal of Leap Gymnastics is to introduce the sport to a wider base of Indians and create a strong foundation for developing elite athletes who can compete at global championships, including the Olympics in 2032.
Gymnastics is considered one of the best foundation sports for physical literacy, which is crucial for India where participation levels in sports and physical activities need improvement. Leap Gymnastics aims to enhance agility, balance, coordination, motor skills, body posture, muscle/bone health, and support mental, emotional, and social development.
To further develop the sport in India, Leap Gymnastics has partnered with International Gymnastics Expert Kym Dowdell to create a Competitive Framework for Gymnastics in the country. This framework includes fundamental, performance, and high-performance pathways with detailed technical requirements and evaluation processes. The goal is to increase participation and improve the performance levels of Indian gymnasts.
In addition, Leap Gymnastics has collaborated with the Maharashtra Amateur Gymnastics Association (MAGA) to pilot the Competition Framework and Judge Education and Accreditation System in competitions and championships in Maharashtra. The success of this pilot program will pave the way for adoption across all other states in India.
As part of this partnership, Leap Gymnastics will host the first club gymnastics championship – Leap Invitational Gymnastics Championship 2024 on May 11 and 12. This championship will be organized according to the new competition framework and is expected to attract over 250 gymnasts from across Maharashtra.
With a focus on building India’s capability in gymnastics, developing a strong ecosystem for the sport, and increasing accessibility, Leap Gymnastics is set to revolutionize the gymnastics scene in India. The initiative aims to establish high-performance training centers, developmental centers, and recreational centers to cater to the growing demand for gymnastics in the country.
