Matty English learning from mentor Chris Hill at Huddersfield Giants

Huddersfield Giants prop Matty English is looking to emulate his teammate Chris Hill, who he once looked up to as a fan. A decade ago, English posed for a picture with the then Warrington star, never imagining that one day they would be playing alongside each other.

English, now 26, credits Hill as a mentor who leads by example on and off the field. He admires Hill’s competitive nature and the way he prepares for games, which has helped him improve his own game. Despite their close relationship, English jokingly mentions that Hill never pays for coffee when they grab a drink together.

As Huddersfield enjoys a four-game winning streak, St Helens is looking to bounce back after a tough run of games. Coach Paul Wellens has had honest conversations with his players after a disappointing performance in the Challenge Cup.

With only Super League to focus on now, Huddersfield is gearing up to face St Helens, a team known for their strong defense and individual talent. Wellens acknowledges the threat posed by Huddersfield, particularly by top try scorer Adam Swift, who he describes as a talented player and a good friend.

As English continues to learn from Hill and improve his game, he hopes to contribute to Huddersfield’s success on the field. With a mentor like Hill by his side, English is confident that he can reach new heights in his rugby league career.
