Oxford United Thrash Fleetwood Town 4-0 as Mark Harris Scores Twice
Mark Harris was the hero for Oxford United as he scored twice in a resounding 4-0 victory over Fleetwood Town, reigniting their push for a League One play-off spot. The U’s, who had slipped out of the top six after a draw against Shrewsbury, bounced back in style with their biggest win of the season.
The game was effectively over by half-time, with Cameron Brannagan opening the scoring in the 14th minute with a deflected shot off Imari Samuels. Harris then doubled the lead with a superb finish from Josh Murphy’s cross, before Owen Dale added a third just before the break.
Harris completed his brace with a shot that deflected in off Brendan Wiredu late in the game, sealing a comprehensive victory for Oxford. Fleetwood had their chances, with Tommy Lonergan coming close early on, but they were unable to find a way past the dominant U’s defense.
Oxford could have added more goals, with Murphy, Brannagan, Ruben Rodrigues, and Sam Long all going close. Fleetwood, on the other hand, were unlucky not to score when Phoenix Patterson’s free-kick hit the bar.
The win sees Oxford climb back into contention for a play-off spot, while Fleetwood remain in a relegation battle. With performances like this, Oxford will be hoping to carry their momentum into the final games of the season as they look to secure a place in the League One play-offs.
