RCB Head Coach Andy Flower Acknowledges Top-Order Struggles, Hopes for Resurgence
Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s head coach Andy Flower is not one to mince his words when it comes to assessing his team’s performance. And in a recent press conference ahead of RCB’s match against Lucknow Super Giants, Flower did not shy away from acknowledging the lackluster form of his team’s top-order batsmen.
While Virat Kohli has managed to shine with two fifties in three matches in IPL 2024, the likes of Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green, and Rajat Patidar have struggled to make an impact with the bat. Flower, however, remains optimistic about a quick turnaround in their fortunes.
“Our top five batsmen are yet to fire. There are big scores on offer at Chinnaswamy. So, once our big batsmen start scoring runs, I think we’ll see some of those big scores. I have absolutely no doubt about that,” Flower said.
The Chinnaswamy Stadium pitch has shown signs of being bowler-friendly in recent matches, but Flower expects a more batsman-friendly pitch for the upcoming game.
“We scored 184 here a couple of nights ago and that was chased down in 17 overs. So, there are big scores on offer and particularly the venue being a little smaller. The ball travels here on the field too,” Flower explained.
Despite the historical stats showing a mixed bag of results for RCB at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Flower is focused on ensuring his team is prepared for any situation.
“We don’t want the toss to be a huge factor. We want to be in control of all our skills and our tactics. We’ve got to get that right,” Flower emphasized.
With Flower’s guidance and the talent in the RCB squad, fans can expect a spirited performance from the team as they look to turn their fortunes around in the IPL 2024 season.
