Leap Gymnastics and Kym Dowdell Collaborate to Revolutionize Gymnastics in India: A Pathway to Olympic Success

The future of gymnastics in India is looking brighter than ever, thanks to a new collaboration between Leap Gymnastics and Kym Dowdell, a former vice-president of the International Gymnastics Federation Technical Committee. The aim of this partnership is to develop a robust competitive framework that will help identify and nurture talented athletes who can compete at a global level, including the 2032 Olympics.

Dowdell, who has extensive experience in the world of gymnastics, believes that India has the potential to produce multiple athletes of Dipa Karmakar’s caliber, given the right training and support. The new framework, which has been in the works for the past eight months, consists of three phases aimed at building a strong foundation for gymnasts and preparing them for elite competition.

One of the key aspects of the framework is the introduction of compulsory routines, which will ensure that all gymnasts compete on an equal footing and develop the necessary skills to progress to higher levels of competition. This structured approach is a departure from the traditional system in India, which has only focused on two levels under the international framework.

With the support of the Gymnastics Federation of India, Leap Gymnastics will be launching the new framework in Maharashtra, with plans to expand it to other parts of the country in the future. The first club gymnastics championship under the new framework is set to take place at Leap’s Worli centre on May 11 and 12, marking a significant milestone in the development of gymnastics in India.

By implementing this comprehensive and systematic approach to training, Dowdell and Leap Gymnastics hope to see a new generation of Indian gymnasts emerge and compete at the highest levels of the sport. With the right support and infrastructure in place, India could soon become a force to be reckoned with in the world of gymnastics.
