Gibraltar Boxing Association Hosts Successful Event: A Look at the Future of the Sport

Gibraltar Boxing Association Hosts Successful Event on Home Soil

Gibraltar boxing fans were treated to a thrilling event on Saturday as the Gibraltar Boxing Association (GBA) hosted a development side from Ireland at the Tercentenary Sports Hall. The event, the first of its kind in several years, drew a crowd of over one thousand spectators who eagerly lined up outside the venue to support their local boxers.

Despite the event featuring novice boxers and some facing the ring for the first time, the crowd was not disappointed. The GBA celebrated an overall win, a retirement announcement from Daniel Hyde-Gomes, and the emergence of new talents like the Montegriffos. Exhibition bouts kept the audience entertained, with Jack Houston emerging victorious in his match against Moises.

The event was not just about the action in the ring, but also about the development of the sport and the support from the local community. Kaelan Joyce, representing the GBA, emphasized the importance of hosting events locally to benefit not only the boxers but also local businesses and charities.

The GBA’s focus on the sport rather than financial gains was evident in their collaboration with official boxing bodies and adherence to safety regulations. The association aims to promote amateur boxing and ensure the safety of all participants, with funds raised from events going towards further developing the sport and supporting local charities.

Looking ahead, the GBA plans to continue hosting local events and expanding their reach internationally. With a trip to Ireland in the works and aspirations to compete in international tournaments, the GBA is committed to representing Gibraltar proudly on the global stage.

The support of the home crowd on April 20th was crucial for the success of the event, and the GBA hopes to continue engaging local fans in future events. With a strong foundation in place and a dedicated team behind them, the GBA is poised for continued success in the world of amateur boxing.
