Lake Superior Elementary Girls Shine in Youth Hockey Tournament
The girls of Lake Superior Elementary School have proven themselves to be fierce competitors on the ice as part of the Superior Travel Hockey Team. Kaylynn Nord, Annelise Pierce, and Athena Grenier, along with the support of high school team captain Autumn Cooper, recently clinched a victory in the state playoffs against the Spooner Rails.
The journey to the state tournament was not without its challenges, as the team faced a tough loss to Spooner before coming back for a sweet revenge victory. The promise of ice cream from their coach if they made it to the state tournament surely added some extra motivation for the girls.
In Waukesha, Wisconsin, the team dominated their first game against the Madison Polar Caps with a score of 10-2, leading to a jubilant celebration. The second game against Shaw was a test of their skills and teamwork, but the Superior girls rose to the occasion and secured their spot in the championship game.
The championship game was a rollercoaster of emotions, with controversial calls and intense gameplay. Despite a valiant effort, the team ultimately took home second place after a hard-fought battle against TNT.
Kaylynn Nord and Annelise Pierce, both fifth graders at Lake Superior Elementary, showcased their talent and determination throughout the tournament. Their story is a testament to the growing popularity and success of girls hockey in the Northland.
