Robert Milkins throws his cue in frustration at World Snooker Championship

In a dramatic turn of events at the World Snooker Championship, Robert Milkins, the 16th seed, threw his cue to the ground in frustration during his match against David Gilbert. Gilbert, who defeated 2023 champion Luca Brecel in the first round, holds a commanding 12-4 lead over Milkins, needing only one more frame to move into the quarter-finals.

Former world champion John Parrott, commenting on the incident, expressed surprise at Milkins’ actions, stating, “Milkins is so frustrated with his own level of performance but to throw your cue, it’s very unusual to see that.” He added, “Vesuvius has been bubbling under for a day and a bit – and unfortunately she just blasted off.”

Gilbert, ranked 31st in the world, has been in fine form, battling through two rounds of qualifying to reach the Crucible. Milkins, on the other hand, has struggled with his performance, describing himself as “a dodgy horse” incapable of leading. Despite a win against China’s Pang Junxu, Milkins has been plagued by demons and frustration throughout the tournament.

Meanwhile, Wales’ Jak Jones, ranked 44th in the world, made a strong start against 2023 semi-finalist Si Jiahui of China, leading 6-2 after the opening session. With breaks of 66 and 71, Jones gained a four-frame advantage over his opponent, setting the stage for an exciting continuation of their match.

As the World Snooker Championship unfolds, the drama and intensity continue to captivate fans, with top players like Judd Trump and Shaun Murphy also in action. Stay tuned for more updates as the tournament progresses at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.
