Developing a National Sports Structure for Rugby in St Vincent and the Grenadines with Wayne Pantor and SVG Rugby Union President
Wayne Pantor, a Trinidadian sports development expert, is currently in St Vincent and the Grenadines to assist the Rugby Union in implementing a National Sports Structure. Pantor, along with President of the SVG Rugby Union, Dellon Durrant, and Kelly Glass, was recently spotted at the decommissioned ET Joshua Airport observing the national Rugby training programme in action.
Funded by Olympic Solidarity through the St Vincent and the Grenadines Olympic Committee, Pantor’s main goal is to create a pathway towards the 2028 Olympic Qualifiers by developing structures and training programs for both the 7’s and 15’s formats of the sport. In addition to his on-field responsibilities, Pantor will also be advising the Union on administrative matters to ensure proper protocols are in place for team development.
President Durrant expressed his excitement about the DNSS initiative, stating that it aligns perfectly with the Union’s goal of developing teams, especially focusing on youth and coaching development. Durrant believes that Pantor’s Caribbean background will be beneficial in understanding the unique challenges faced by small countries like St Vincent and the Grenadines.
Pantor, who has previously worked in Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, and St Lucia, is expected to complete his mission by November of this year. He plans to work closely with schools, teams, youth programs, and female programs to lay the groundwork for a more competitive Rugby scene in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
Overall, the collaboration between Pantor, Durrant, and the SVG Rugby Union is set to bring about positive changes in the sport, with the ultimate goal of making Rugby in St Vincent and the Grenadines more competitive on a regional level.
