Mapletown Senior A.J. Vanata Signs Letter of Intent to West Liberty University for Football and Baseball
Mapletown senior A.J. Vanata has made a big decision about his future in sports, signing his Letter of Intent to continue his football, baseball, and academic careers at West Liberty University. The talented athlete had been torn between the two sports, but ultimately decided he couldn’t choose just one.
Vanata, a standout on the football field under coach George Messich, was a key player in an undefeated regular season and a playoff victory during his junior year. On the baseball diamond, he shined for a Maples team that has faced challenges in recent years.
After being recruited in both sports, Vanata made the bold choice to pursue both at the collegiate level. West Liberty University, which had shown interest in him for both football and baseball, was the perfect fit for his ambitions.
“I just love both sports and going out there and competing,” Vanata said. “It keeps me focused and locked in. I love playing them both equally. I couldn’t pick one or the other.”
In football, Vanata was a four-year starter and team captain for the Maples, earning numerous accolades for his performance on the field. He is expected to contribute on the defensive side for the West Liberty football team.
On the baseball field, Vanata will bring his skills as an infielder to the Hilltoppers team. He has been a consistent performer for the Maples, earning recognition for his talent and dedication to the sport.
Coach Bates praised Vanata for his work ethic and leadership qualities, noting his ability to push through injuries and inspire his teammates.
West Liberty University, located in West Virginia, offers Vanata the opportunity to continue his athletic and academic pursuits at the NCAA Division-II level. With his determination and passion for both football and baseball, Vanata is poised to make a significant impact at the collegiate level.
