Benedictine’s Jeremiah “Tank” Thomas Signs with Benedict College
At 6-foot and 295 pounds, Jeremiah “Tank” Thomas has proven himself to be a force to be reckoned with on the defensive line for Benedictine. His ability to anchor the defense has earned him one of the most fitting sports nicknames in the Coastal Empire.
Thomas was instrumental in one of the most memorable moments in state history when BC held off Cedartown on four plays from the 1-yard line to secure the 2022 Class 4A state title in a dramatic rainstorm in Atlanta. As a three-year starter on the BC defense, Thomas played a key role in back-to-back state championships as a sophomore and junior.
Finishing his senior season with 61 tackles and four sacks, Thomas leaves behind an impressive high school career with 162 tackles and nine sacks. His impact on the team was undeniable, as Cadet Coach Danny Britt expressed uncertainty about how they will replace him.
On Tuesday, Thomas solidified his future by signing a scholarship to play at Benedict College. Coach Britt praised Thomas for his strength, skill, and infectious personality, stating that he will be sorely missed on the team.
Reflecting on his time at Benedictine, Thomas expressed gratitude for the school’s structure and preparation for the real world. With plans to major in business management, Thomas is ready for the next chapter in his life. He fondly recalled the championship-winning goal line stand as a defining moment in his high school career.
In other signing news, three football players from St. Andrew’s and five athletes from Calvary Day also committed to their respective colleges, showcasing the talent and dedication of these student-athletes in the Savannah area.
