Georgia GymDogs Hire Simone Biles’ Coach Cecile Canqueteau-Landi

In a move that has sent shockwaves through the gymnastics world, the University of Georgia has announced the hiring of Cecile Canqueteau-Landi, the longtime personal coach of Olympic gymnastics champion Simone Biles, to help lead the GymDogs women’s gymnastics program.

Athletic director Josh Brooks made the announcement on Thursday, revealing that Canqueteau-Landi will serve as a co-head coach alongside Ryan Roberts. Roberts, who spent the last two years as an assistant under Courtney Kupets Carter, will now work alongside Canqueteau-Landi to lead the program to new heights.

Canqueteau-Landi, who competed for France at the 1996 Olympics, has a wealth of experience in the sport and has been instrumental in the success of Simone Biles. Alongside her husband Laurent, she has led the elite program at the World Champions Centre in Houston, where Biles trains.

The Landis began coaching Biles in 2017, helping her to three world all-around titles and two medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Biles is currently preparing for a chance to make the U.S. Olympic team this summer in Paris.

Speaking about her new role, Canqueteau-Landi said, “Throughout my life, gymnastics has provided me some extraordinary opportunities, from traveling the world and competing for my country at the Olympics to coaching amazing athletes at the highest level.”

Canqueteau-Landi and Roberts will be tasked with reviving a program that has lost its status atop the Southeastern Conference. Georgia has a storied history in gymnastics, with 10 NCAA team championships to their name, but they have not won since 2009 and did not qualify for this season’s NCAA championship.

With Canqueteau-Landi’s expertise and Roberts’ experience, the GymDogs are poised to make a strong comeback under their new coaching duo. Fans and athletes alike are eagerly anticipating the impact they will have on the program.
