Gabby Douglas Set to Make Highly-Anticipated Return to Competitive Gymnastics at 2024 American Classic
After a long-awaited hiatus, Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas is set to make her highly anticipated return to competitive gymnastics at the 2024 American Classic. This marks her first competition since the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, where she took home three gold medals.
Douglas, who is the 2012 Olympic all-around champion and the 2015 World all-around silver medalist, took a break from the sport to focus on her mental well-being. In February, she revealed to NBC News that she needed to “work on [her] mental state” before making a comeback.
In July 2023, Douglas hinted on Instagram that she had resumed training and was aiming to compete in the Paris Olympics. Despite a setback due to testing positive for COVID-19, she remained determined to return to the competition floor.
The American Classic, taking place on April 27, is one of the final opportunities for gymnasts to qualify for the U.S. Gymnastics Championships and ultimately the U.S. Olympic Team Trials ahead of the 2024 Paris Games. Douglas will be competing alongside other top gymnasts such as Suni Lee, Jade Carey, and Joscelyn Roberson.
While the American Classic will not be televised, fans can stream the event live on FlipNow. This will be a thrilling event to watch as Douglas makes her long-awaited return to the sport she loves.
