UCLA Bruins’ Offensive Coordinator Eric Bieniemy Pushes Team to Toughness During Spring Practice
LOS ANGELES – The UCLA Bruins’ offensive coordinator, Eric Bieniemy, made his presence known during Thursday morning’s spring football practice. The team faced back-to-back false starts, prompting Bieniemy to deliver a tough-love message to the players.
“Either you know what to do, or you’re not going to play,” Bieniemy shouted, setting the tone for the practice session. The offense, under new coaches like Bieniemy, is gearing up for the upcoming Spring Showcase and working on tightening up their game.
Despite the initial setbacks, Bieniemy’s motivational words seemed to ignite a fire in the offense. Quarterback Ethan Garbers connected with receivers Michael Church and Jack Pedersen for successful plays, showing signs of improvement.
Quarterbacks coach Ted White emphasized the importance of practice in preparing for game situations. He highlighted the need for the team to respond positively to challenges and stay focused on executing plays effectively.
One notable change during practice was the shift at center, with Dovid Magna being replaced by Josh Carlin. White explained that the coaching staff is experimenting with different lineup combinations to field the best offensive unit.
Garbers took the majority of first-team reps, showcasing his leadership skills and dedication to improving both on and off the field. White praised Garbers for his commitment to studying film and leading the team effectively.
However, the practice session was not without its setbacks, as defensive lineman Jay Toia suffered an injury during team drills. Head coach DeShaun Foster provided updates on other injured players, including fullback Anthony Adkins and defensive lineman Gary Smith III, who are working towards recovery.
As the Bruins continue to fine-tune their game during spring practice, the coaching staff remains focused on building a competitive and resilient team for the upcoming season. With key players stepping up and facing challenges head-on, UCLA is poised for an exciting season ahead.
