F1 Commission Delays Decision on Extending Points Positions to 11th and 12th for 2025 Season

The Formula 1 Commission has decided to postpone further discussions on the proposal to extend the points positions for the 2025 season. The initial proposal, which suggested extending the points down to 12th place instead of 10th, was brought up for discussion in the recent F1 Commission meeting in Geneva. However, a decision on the matter was not expected at this stage.

The FIA issued a statement after the meeting, stating that more analysis of the proposed changes was needed before a final decision could be made. The matter will be revisited at the next F1 Commission meeting in July, where a proposal will be presented for further consideration.

The proposal to extend the points to 11th and 12th place would see a revised points distribution system, with the top 12 finishers earning points. This change has sparked debate within the F1 community, with some arguing that points should be hard-won and valued, while others believe that more drivers should be rewarded for their efforts.

In addition to the points discussion, the F1 Commission also talked about plans for pre-season testing in 2025. With Australia returning as the host of the opening round, a new approach will be required for pre-season testing. The Commission will put forward a proposal to Formula One Management for consideration.

Furthermore, the introduction of rear-facing cameras on cars was agreed upon, starting from the Spanish Grand Prix in June. Fans can look forward to the upcoming Miami GP on May 3-5, as Formula 1 makes its first of three visits to the USA in 2024. With all these developments, the F1 season continues to be full of excitement and anticipation for fans around the world.
