Air Force Women’s Basketball Names Stacy McIntyre as Head Coach
In a strategic move for the future of Air Force women’s basketball, the Falcons have selected longtime associate head coach Stacy McIntyre as the replacement for recently retired coach Chris Gobrecht. This announcement was made on Thursday, solidifying McIntyre’s position as the new leader of the program.
McIntyre has been an integral part of the Falcons’ coaching staff for the past nine years, working closely with Gobrecht to transform the team from one of the bottom programs in the nation to a contender in the Mountain West. With her extensive experience and proven track record, McIntyre is well-equipped to continue the program’s upward trajectory.
Athletic director Nathan Pine expressed his excitement for McIntyre’s leadership, highlighting her role in recruiting top players and developing them into leaders of character. Under McIntyre’s guidance, the team has seen significant improvement, with three first-team All-Mountain West selections in recent years.
The Falcons are set to bring back an experienced roster, with the top scorers returning from a team that showed promise in the previous season. McIntyre’s focus on developing not only skilled athletes but also leaders of character aligns with the core values of the United States Air Force Academy.
Gobrecht, who advocated for McIntyre’s promotion, praised her as the driving force behind the team’s recruiting efforts. McIntyre’s dedication to building relationships with players and their families has been instrumental in the program’s success.
Players like Kamri Heath have experienced firsthand McIntyre’s commitment to their development both on and off the court. Heath, who became the program’s all-time leader in field goal percentage, credits McIntyre for her continuous support and encouragement throughout her career.
As McIntyre steps into her new role as the ninth coach in Air Force women’s basketball history, the future looks bright for the Falcons under her leadership. With a strong foundation in place, the team is poised to continue its success and reach new heights in the seasons to come.
