George and Wynne-Griffith Triumph in World Cup Gold Despite Winter Training Setbacks

Cheltenham rower George Ross has overcome challenging winter conditions to kick off his season with a bang, securing World Cup gold in the men’s pair alongside Ollie Wynne-Griffith in Varese.

Despite facing disruptions in his training due to poor weather at his base in Caversham, Ross and Wynne-Griffith managed to trust themselves and come out on top in Italy. The duo, who have been partners since their school days, are now setting their sights on the upcoming European Championships before the Olympics.

Reflecting on their success, Ross emphasized the importance of trusting themselves and staying focused on their own race rather than worrying about their competitors. The pair’s strong bond and shared determination have propelled them to success, with a silver medal at the World Championships in Belgrade and a British record-breaking performance at the World Cup.

As they prepare for the European Championships in Hungary, Ross and Wynne-Griffith are focused on fine-tuning their race strategy, particularly in the middle kilometre. With their eyes set on a second Olympic Games, the duo is determined to continue their winning streak and make their mark on the international rowing scene.

British Rowing, the governing body for the sport, is supporting Ross and Wynne-Griffith on their journey to success. With the National Lottery Sports Fund behind them, the GB Rowing Team is gearing up for a successful season ahead.
