Adrian Newey Set to Leave Red Bull Design Chief Role Amidst Controversy and Rumors of Ferrari Move
Legendary Formula 1 designer Adrian Newey is reportedly set to leave his role as design chief at Red Bull after almost two decades with the team. The 65-year-old, who has been with Red Bull since 2006, is said to be departing before his contract expires next year.
According to BBC Sport, Newey is on his way out following the recent Christian Horner scandal, in which the Red Bull team principal was cleared of ‘inappropriate behavior’ towards a female colleague. It is believed that Newey has been left ‘unsettled’ by the situation and is now looking to leave the team.
Despite his contract running until 2025, Newey reportedly believes he can negotiate an early exit that would allow him to join a new team for the upcoming season. Speculation has linked him with a move to Ferrari, who are already planning for the future with the signing of Lewis Hamilton from Mercedes.
Newey himself fueled rumors of his potential departure earlier this month when he spoke about his future in an interview. He expressed his love for designing and engineering in Formula 1, but also mentioned that he doesn’t plan too far ahead and will continue as long as he enjoys it and the team wants him.
As one of the most successful and respected figures in Formula 1, Newey’s departure from Red Bull would mark the end of an era for the team. Fans will be eagerly watching to see where his next chapter in the sport will take him.
