Exciting All-Ireland Basketball Play-Offs at Coláiste Bhríde

A fantastic day of competition unfolded as Coláiste Bhríde hosted the first-year All-Ireland basketball play-offs last week. Teams from Cork, Dublin, and Carlow traveled to the Wexford border to battle it out with the talented side from the Carnew school in a busy day in the sports hall.

The day kicked off with a game between the hosts and St. Leo’s, where the Carlow students showed their strength and emerged victorious with a score of 18-7. Despite a valiant effort from Coláiste Bhríde, they couldn’t stop the visitors from taking the win.

Following a defeat to the Dublin students, the Coláiste Bhríde girls found their rhythm in the shield final against Maryfield College. Ameerah Avbara and Sophie O’Loughlin shone brightly as they secured a special win, showcasing their determination and skill on the court.

In the final, St. Leo’s proved too strong for the Cork side, advancing to the All-Ireland semi-final with an impressive performance. The day was filled with intense matches, showcasing the passion and talent of young basketball players from across the country.

The Coláiste Bhríde team, led by players like Emily Wafer, Georgia Horan, and Caitlin O’Keeffe, put up a strong fight throughout the day. Coached by Mr. Gleeson and Ms. Dermody, the team displayed great teamwork and sportsmanship, making their school proud with their efforts on the court.

Overall, it was a day filled with excitement, competition, and sportsmanship, highlighting the dedication and skill of young basketball players in Ireland. Congratulations to all the teams who participated and best of luck to St. Leo’s as they move on to the next stage of the competition.
