Sporting Giants Launches to Accelerate Climate Action in International Sports Organizations
Sporting Giants, a new “purpose-led” sports consultancy, has officially launched today with the goal of helping international sports organizations accelerate climate action. The consultancy, led by CEO and co-founder Scott Over and co-founder and chief sustainability officer Dan Reading, aims to guide UK sporting bodies towards greater sustainability across environmental, social, and commercial operations.
Having already worked with major global sports brands in sailing, rugby, tennis, and golf, Sporting Giants has also assisted 18 international sports rights holders in setting and achieving sustainability targets. The consultancy is now partnering with UK Sport and environmental consultancy Useful Projects to bring 20 national sporting governing bodies on board through a unique accelerator for sustainability. Plans are in place to work with an additional 20 organizations in the future.
Scott Over emphasized the significant value of embracing sustainability and business strategy synergies, stating, “There is immense power in collective action, and we are incredibly proud to play a part in protecting the future of sport for generations to come.” Dan Reading highlighted the urgent need for all sectors, including sports, to take climate action, noting the transformative power of sport to drive meaningful change and lead towards a more sustainable and inclusive future.
The launch of Sporting Giants comes at a time of growing green momentum in the world of sport, with various sporting bodies and competitions unveiling updated sustainability strategies and goals. The consultancy’s focus on sustainability aligns with the increasing recognition of the climate and environmental impacts on sporting events, from grassroots to professional levels.
As the sports industry continues to prioritize sustainability, initiatives like Sporting Giants are crucial in driving environmental action and inspiring fans globally. With the collective effort of organizations and individuals, the future of sport looks set to be more sustainable and inclusive.
