Top Area Teams Stand Out as Regular Season Nears Conclusion
With just a little over three weeks left in the regular season, the top area high school baseball teams are starting to separate themselves from the pack. Sports Editor Matt Daniels has released the latest Top 10 poll, and there have been some notable shifts in the rankings.
At the top of the list is Monticello, who holds the number one spot with a record of 22-2. Despite suffering two consecutive losses, the Sages are still a force to be reckoned with and will look to bounce back in their upcoming game against Bloomington Central Catholic.
Following closely behind is St. Joseph-Ogden, with a record of 22-2 as well. The Spartans have been dominating on the road, with three consecutive wins in as many days. They will face tough competition in their upcoming games against Charleston and Maroa-Forsyth.
Mahomet-Seymour holds the third spot in the rankings, with a record of 15-5. The Bulldogs are currently on a seven-game win streak and will look to extend it in their upcoming game against Hoopeston Area.
Unity and Arcola round out the top five, with records of 15-5 and 16-2 respectively. Both teams have been on impressive win streaks and will look to continue their success in their upcoming games.
Other notable teams in the Top 10 include Westville, BHRA, GCMS, Champaign Central, and Armstrong-Potomac. These teams have all been performing well and will look to make a statement as the regular season winds down.
