Westlake Baseball Clinches Marmonte League Title with Shutout Win Over Oaks Christian

In a thrilling showdown between two powerhouse high school baseball teams, Westlake emerged victorious over Oaks Christian with a nail-biting 1-0 win to clinch their first Marmonte League title since 2011. The game was a true display of skill and determination from both sides, but it was Westlake’s pitcher, Dylan Volantis, who stole the show with a stellar performance on the mound.

Volantis, a USC-bound senior, pitched a one-hitter and recorded five strikeouts in a masterful display of pitching prowess. The game was the second in a three-game series between the Warriors and the Lions, with Oaks Christian taking the first game 3-2 on Monday. However, Volantis and the Westlake defense were determined to turn the tide in their favor and secure the league title.

The game was a defensive battle from start to finish, with both teams making key plays to keep the score close. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Oaks Christian had a chance to rally after a huge defensive play, but the Warriors’ defense held strong to secure the win. Mac McKinley’s clutch hit in the second inning drove in the lone run of the game, giving Westlake the edge they needed to come out on top.

Despite Oaks Christian’s strong showing, they ultimately fell short in their quest for victory. Lions pitcher Ty Hanley put up a valiant effort, throwing a complete game and striking out five hitters, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Westlake’s determined offense and solid defense.

With the win, Westlake now sets their sights on the CIF and state championships, aiming to add more hardware to their impressive season. As for Oaks Christian, they still have a chance to contend for second place in the Marmonte League as they look to finish the season strong.

In other baseball action on Wednesday, Notre Dame, Newbury Park, Chaminade, Loyola, Moorpark, and Camarillo all notched wins in their respective games, showcasing the depth of talent in high school baseball across the region. The stage is set for an exciting finish to the season as teams gear up for the playoffs and a shot at championship glory.
