Cal Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2024: Gutierrez, Gray-Lawson, and More
Jorge Gutierrez and Alexis Gray-Lawson, two of Cal’s most accomplished basketball players of this century, have been selected to lead the eight-person Cal Athletics Hall of Fame class of 2024. These two outstanding athletes have left an indelible mark on the Golden Bears’ sports legacy and are now being honored for their remarkable contributions to the university.
Gutierrez, a tenacious defensive player hailing from Mexico, played a pivotal role in leading the Bears to the 2010 Pac-12 championship, their first in 50 years. His stellar performance on the court earned him the title of conference player of the year in 2012, solidifying his place as one of Cal’s all-time greats.
On the other hand, Gray-Lawson, a standout guard, earned All-America honors in 2010 and was a three-time selection to the all-conference team. She also made history by becoming just the third Cal player to be chosen in the WNBA draft, showcasing her exceptional talent and skill on the basketball court.
Joining Gutierrez and Gray-Lawson in the 2024 Hall of Fame class are six other distinguished individuals, including Scott Frandsen, Tarik Glenn, Pia Halbig, Caitlin Leverenz Smith, Mike MacDonald, and Nancy McDaniel. Each inductee has made significant contributions to their respective sports and has left a lasting impact on the Cal Athletics program.
Cal Athletics has announced a change in its process for honoring Hall of Fame members, with selections now being celebrated every two years. The 2024 class and the 2025 selections will be recognized at the 2025 Hall of Fame Gala, coinciding with a home football game that fall.
The Cal Athletics Hall of Fame now boasts 347 individuals and seven rowing teams, showcasing the rich history and tradition of excellence within the university’s sports programs. The Hall serves as a testament to the outstanding achievements of past and present athletes who have represented Cal with pride and distinction.
