Lack of Bowling Opportunities May Hinder CSK Player Shivam Dube’s World Cup Chances
Despite superb batting form, lack of opportunities to bowl may hinder CSK player’s chances
CHENNAI: Shivam Dube’s impressive performances with the bat for Chennai Super Kings in the ongoing IPL season have caught the attention of many, sparking discussions about his potential inclusion in the T20 World Cup squad. The left-hander has amassed 311 runs in eight games at a strike rate of 169.94, showcasing his ability to clear the fence with ease.
However, Dube’s lack of opportunities to bowl in the IPL due to the ‘impact player’ rule has raised concerns about his chances of making it to the national team. Former national selector Devang Gandhi believes that Dube’s bowling skills could be crucial in T20s and that he has the capability to contribute with the ball if needed.
CSK coach Stephen Fleming has reassured that Dube is working hard on his bowling in practice sessions, despite not getting a chance to showcase his skills in matches. Fleming praised Dube’s improved performance against quicker bowlers this season and highlighted his consistency as a performer for the team.
With competition from players like Rinku Singh of Kolkata Knight Riders, who has also been in good form, Dube faces a tough battle for a spot in the Indian squad. However, Gandhi believes that Dube’s ability to provide an extra bowling option could work in his favor, especially on pitches in the West Indies where spinners play a significant role.
As the IPL progresses, all eyes will be on Dube as he continues to impress with his batting prowess and aims to prove his worth as an all-rounder. The upcoming matches will be crucial for him to showcase his bowling skills and strengthen his case for a place in the T20 World Cup squad.
